The Viet House

VCC House

2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the exodus of Vietnamese refugees to Canada, and particularly to Montreal. Over these 50 years, the community has quietly yet deeply taken root. Today, it is present in nearly every sphere of civic life in Montreal.

To commemorate this 50th anniversary, we wish to affirm our presence by building our home — a place to set down one’s suitcases, to welcome our parents, friends, colleagues, and neighbors — while preserving and transforming a space that carries history, namely that of Montreal’s architectural heritage.

Viet Home’s goals

DEVELOPMENT OF VIETNAMESE CULTURAL IDENTITY
  • The Viet Home will serve the Vietnamese community as a place of welcome, integration, gathering, exchange, and sharing. It will also showcase the creativity and dynamism of Quebecers of Vietnamese origin and their contribution to Montreal’s cultural life.
  • It will support Vietnamese community organizations.
  • It will promote the social and political inclusion of members of the Vietnamese community.
CONTRIBUTION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SOUTHWEST BOROUGH
  • The Viet Home will enhance the borough’s cultural offerings by hosting artistic activities and free performances open to the general public.
  • It will provide free multipurpose spaces (performance hall, multipurpose room, meeting room) to community organizations in the Southwest, thereby making a concrete contribution to local community life.
PARTICIPATION IN MONTREAL’S COMMUNITY ACTION
  • The Viet Home will play an active role in literacy, education, and social integration.
  • It will support youth inclusion, promotion of equality, access to employment, inclusive recreational activities, and the fight against racism and discrimination.

Planned Use of the Building

The Saint-Paul Centre will host the activities of the VCC and CVietRC, including:

  • Offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, and workshop spaces;
  • An artist residency;
  • A library, audio library, and video library, including a permanent exhibition of costumes, artifacts, artworks, and musical instruments related to Vietnamese culture;
  • An exhibition gallery;
  • A performance hall, a multipurpose room, and a reception hall.

Buy a Stone, Build a Home
This is the theme of a fundraising campaign for the future Viet Home.

The campaign aims to raise $100,000 in donations, necessary to launch the project.
To date, $25,000 has been raised. We still need $75,000.
Each donor will receive a symbolic certificate of ownership for one or more “bricks,” each valued at $1,000, along with a tax receipt (conditions apply).
