With the support of the City of Montreal and the Government of Quebec, the Vietnamese Cultural Centre will once again present the “Let’s Celebrate the Asian New Year Together” project in 2027 and 2028.
This new edition aims to encourage the cultural participation of young people in schools through the discovery and collective celebration of the Asian New Year. It seeks to create opportunities for sharing and engagement in which students become active participants in a cultural celebration experienced by the entire community.
The project pursues the following objectives:
- Encourage the active participation of elementary and secondary school students in a collective cultural experience;
- Foster understanding and appreciation of Asian cultural traditions from an inclusive and non-religious perspective;
- Promote social cohesion and intercultural living together in Montreal neighbourhoods characterized by diverse backgrounds, origins, and lived experiences.
The project will take place in several Montreal boroughs, including Saint-Laurent, Ahuntsic, Rosemont, and Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.
This cultural mediation initiative represents a new direction for our Centre, which has traditionally focused primarily on artistic presentation through its regular programming.
The project aims to actively engage citizens in a process of learning about and passing on cultural traditions through participatory and intergenerational activities.
The Asian New Year (also known as the Lunar New Year) is celebrated by Chinese communities (Chūnjié) Korean communities (Seol lal), and Vietnamese communities (Tết).
